Sharing the joys of model railroading on the San Francisco peninsula

Hello there. My name is Dale.

I've been searching for more model HO clubs near me to be apart of. I went to West Bay Model Railroad many years ago with a member and friend of mine named "Nick Iaconis". Back then, I was mostly apart of a club in Salinas. I am still apart of that club, but due to the distance of travel, it makes it difficult for me to attend. West Bay is only 20 mins away from me.

I am interested in becoming a member of this model railroad club. How does joining and membership work?

Thank you,
-Dale

Very glad to know you are interested in joining our club, Dale! Applying for membership is straightforward: simply attend three consecutive business meetings, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 8pm, to express your interest, complete and return an application at the first or second meeting and, during your third visit the club will vote on your membership. Club dues are $200 per calendar year to help cover rent, utilities and the like. Please let me know if you have any additional questions and I hope to see you at the club soon! Regards,

Mark Drury

I see. That sounds pretty straight forward. I live in San Jose, so getting there on a weekday may be challenging, but not impossible ;-)

How does the club work once Im a member? Are members given keys to the building? Or are they're only designated operation days?

-Dale

I plan to show up for January 7th Open House to introduce myself and get a feel for the place. Will you be attending?

-Dale

Dale, I should be at the January 7th Open House and we can discuss building access for members and related matters then. Note that it may be more convenient for you to take Caltrain to the club from San Jose if you live near a station--our club building is perhaps 100 yards from the Menlo Park Caltrain Station. Just let me know what time you might attend January 7th and I'll try to be there to welcome you and answer your questions. Regards,

Mark Drury

Sounds good Mark! I should be there sometime between 1:00 and 2:00pm. I may bring a good friend of mine with me as well :-)

Hello again!

Everything went extremely well last Saturday. I forgot to ask one important question though:  What time does the depot open on Tuesday?

-Dale

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself at the club Saturday, Dale, and sincerest apologies I wasn't able to join you there! To answer your question, the business meeting begins at 8pm tonight and members usually show up before then so arriving anytime between 7:30-7:55 should be fine. If you had something else in mind please let me know and I hope to meet you at the club this evening! Regards,

Mark Drury

No worries on not being able to make it. I'm currently on Caltrain heading there. Figured it would be better to do it this way due to traffic conditions with rush hour and the weather. I'll end up arriving a lot earlier, but that will give me time to grab dinner. The train is supposed to get me there around 4:35pm or a little after :-)
